PAC Launches Social Justice Committee

Following the success of our East Meets West Clothing Drive in October, many PJ parents expressed a desire to provide more long-term support to inner city students and families: from making the clothing drive an annual event, to providing additional donations to the schools, to figuring out ways to develop a more of a collaborative relationship between students through art, music, or sports.

With this in mind, the PAC is forming a Social Justice Committee to look at how Pauline Johnson can continue to support inner-city students and explore other worthwhile initiatives as they arise.

The inaugural meeting will take place immediately after the regular PAC meeting on Wednesday, February 8 at 7 p.m.

We are hoping that all parents who have an interest in social justice issues can attend. If you are unable to make it, but would like to remain informed or be involved in the future, please send me a message or subscribe to this newsletter

The tentative agenda for the February 8 meeting is as follows. If there are additional items you would like to see added, please let me know.

  1. Introductions
  2. History of social justice and Pauline Johnson
  3. Developing a new "sister school" relationship with another school:
    1. What would this look like?
    2. What school would it make sense to partner with?
    3. What kind of opportunities are there support, collaboration, and exchange?
  4. Other opportunities are there for the Pauline Johnson community to become more involved in social justice issues?
  5. Future meeting time?
    1. When? (Days and times)
    2. How often?
    3. Where?
  6. What roles do people want to play in the social justice committee?
  7. Other items?
See you on Wednesday, February 8!
